A Breathtaking Castle Wedding in Bamburgh
Emma & Adrian
Gothic Bridal Makeup at Bamburgh Castle
When Emma got in touch, the first thing we discussed was that she wasn’t looking for traditional bridal makeup. She was specifically searching for a makeup artist who specialises in gothic bridal makeup, cue me!
Her wedding at Bamburgh Castle called for something dramatic. Historic stone interiors and a stunning, rugged coastline was the backdrop for an intimate celebration in the Phillipa Tower. The setting, and Emma, deserved a make-up look with presence.
Emma wanted a strong, alternative bridal look for herself, but soft, natural makeup for her bridal party. That balance is something I often work with. The bride should feel powerful and authentic, while the overall look of the bridal party as whole still feels cohesive.
The Trial That Changed Everything
At Emma’s trial, we created a bold emerald and grey eye look to complement her crown. It was creative and striking, and she liked it.
But when she later tried her dress on, something didn’t feel quite right.
This is exactly why bridal makeup trials matter. They give you space to reassess what you had in your head, and on your Pinterest board, not everything you think you love will feel the same in reality.
We stripped the look back and returned to what truly felt like her. A gothic blend of reds and black with strong contrast. Everything fell into place, and Emma knew it was perfect for her special day.
The Final Look
On the wedding day, we created:
• Porcelain, softly structured skin
• Smoky black and crimson eyes
• Defined lashes
• A metallic blood-red lip as the focus
The result felt regal, romantic and completely aligned with the castle setting.
When Emma looked in the mirror, she said,
“I feel like a Gothic princess.” Honestly for me, this is always my key goal as your makeup artist, never to change to fit into what’s expected for your wedding day, but to elevate who you already are.
